Congratulations to the NewsOne team on the momentous launch of their brand new, (iOne3) V3 (+) theme powered site. You can see it now on mobile and desktop at http://newsone.com.
I added a plus (+) on top of the version number because we designed and built a whole lot of new things to serve specifically for a news site and a news user experience, with this build.
It all started in the first half of this year when Tom Newman met with me, Markus, Piotr, Brandon, Ben, Amee, Shawn, and Sam to talk about what we should be planning for News, and for Local. Out of that came a wishlist. Most of those wishes, are now coming true, first on NewsOne, and subsequently, as applicable on Local and other sites.
Before I go on too long, let me point you to Christina Coleman’s articulation of the site redesign, to our NewsOne audience. It’s well worth a read – and is featured on the homepage today.

Now to cast back just a bit, I wanted to throw props to Piotr Motykiewicz, who helped us build out the NewsOne Flip app many months ago. (iTunes App Store / Google Play). Piotr’s idea for a “Tinder for News” was and is innovative and we had a quick win (within about a month) getting that first offering out the door.
At the same time, the Creative Services team with main leadership from Brandon Douglas and Ben Iturralde were hitting the ground running and firing on all cylinders. Various iterations of Invision designs and many reviews of user flows resulted in what you will see today on the front end of http://newsone.com. And be sure you look on mobile. As a mobile-first organization, with majority mobile traffic, they were careful and successful about designing for mobile. Well done.
Other people who helped materially included my team (Amee, Jonathan) and Markus’s team as called – and also in coordinating with the Local Redesign (about which more, soon). Thank you all as well.
Yet again also props to Datka Lapidus for ready-service on ads testing and collaboration with the rest of the ad ops team as well as with creative services for rich media.
